Keep Calm and Get Good Grades

Did you know that your grades are monitored by the Financial Aid & Scholarships office? It is called Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy.  There are three parts to the policy:
  1. Cumulative Grade Point Average - all students must maintain a Cumulative grade point average based on student type: see grid below.
  2. Acceptable Passing Rate (APR) - percentage of cumulative units taken which must be passed.
  3. Maximum timeframe and time limit - which includes the maximum number of earned units based on program requirements and maximum number of semesters a student can attend.

Students must meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy in order to continue receiving financial aid each semester. Students who do not meet SAP standards will be notified by the Financial Aid office at the end of each semester after official grades have posted.

FAFSA Time

It’s that time of year again, FAFSA time.  If you are planning on using financial aid to help pay with your educational expenses for the 2018-2019 school year, then you will want to get your FAFSA done ASAP!  To do so visit https://fafsa.ed.gov

You will need to have your FAFSA PIN ready for you and your parents if you are considered dependent on Federal guidelines.  Refer to the FAFSA for instructions.

The priority deadline in California is March 2, 2018 (date postmarked).  For more information on the FAFSA and all the deadlines visit https://fafsa.ed.gov

Do you know FAFSA has three deadlines!

Did you know, there are three FAFSA deadlines?  Me, well yes! Why because I filed for financial aid every year in junior college, at the CSU and then when I went for my graduate degree.  Therefore, I have plenty of years of filing a FAFSA to know there will always be deadlines.  Nevertheless, do not fear with the help of the Federal Student Aid website and the Department of Education website we have those dates right here for you.

There is three deadline date to be aware of:

1.    The College Deadline

·      At CSUCI student should file a 2018-2019 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act application on or before Friday, March 2, 2018, to get priority status. 

·      At CSUCI students should also be aware of the May 31, 2018, priority financial aid document deadline.  Please refer to your "To Do" list on the CI Records pages your myCI page for documents that must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office no later than the May 31, 2018, priority document deadline date.

2.    The State Deadline

·      In California, the sate deadline is March 2, 2018 (date postmarked).  With respect to the Cal Grant, this also requires the submission of a school-certified GPA by March 2, 2018. 

·      For further information refer to the California Student Aid Commission web page: http://www.csac.ca.gov/

3.    The Federal Deadline

·      The U.S. Department of Education FAFSA deadline for the 2018-2019 academic year is June 30, 2019.

Therefore, the moral of the story is if you have not filed file ASAP!
